Crime and homelessness have greatly increased in California because of our sanctuary status. Laws enacted like Prop 47 allow criminals to steal up to 950 dollars of goods with no consequence. This law must be repealed or significantly modified to allow our judges to impose stiffer sentencing. In addition, AB 109 which requires nonviolent felons to serve their time in local county jails causes overcrowding and early release of inmates kicking the perpetrators of crime back onto our streets.
California has gone from a budget surplus in 2021 to a huge budget deficit in 2023. Overspending and mismanagement of state revenues is a critical issue. The state pays millions of taxpayer funds for free healthcare for non-citizens. We have the highest tax rates in the country so the state receives adequate revenues but wasteful spending and misallocation of those funds divert them away from core services. Making budget allocations transparent to the public is critical.
Water infrastructure and improved capture and retention of surface water from rainfall and snowmelt are sorely needed. The combination of capturing and retaining our water resources as well as resolving the issues of water delivery from the Delta to our central valley is critical. Israel is a leader in water preservation systems for agriculture and our Central Valley could benefit greatly from some of their technologies.
Government overreach keeps on ramping up. SB 2 is placing new limits on concealed firearm permit holders and AB 28 places an 11% new tax on firearms and ammunition. AB 1084 requires retailers to have a "gender-neutral" toy section. These are just a few of the many examples of government overreach that I will be pushing back against.
